I'd
like to complain in the strongest manner about the quality of the
ntlworld email service. Although I don't have exact figures,
the email
service now fails on a daily basis around 5-7 p.m. The downtime is usually
at least 2 hours and sometimes much longer.
Even NTL's own service status web page admits there's a fault, although
I've noticed that it is not reported here nearly as much as it should
be.
I've been reporting my dissatifaction to NTL and have never once received
a
proper reply from a real person - an automated response fools no-one and
in
fact inflames the situation, as this demonstrates that NTL is simply 'building-in'
failure to its service rather than dealing with it. I hope you can forward
this to the highest level at NTL, as the service is no longer worth the
money.

I have had a slight problem with ntl,
i have the broadband internet i was on 1mb service and i was getting charged
for 150k, 600k and 1mb how was this happening i only have 1 cable modem
not 3!! anyway i phoned them up and they sorted it out straight away for
me so that was quite good i think, ntl is a good company they offer cheap
services who cares if there is a fault with the email service ntl are
coming back with a bigger and better service next year. SO WATCH THIS

I couldn't sympathise more. I
have wasted so many hours in the last year trying to stop myself being
disconnected, or worse, sued, for non-payment of bills I didn't even owe.
I hope ntl's current financial difficulty soon sees them taken over by
someone who cares!

NTL are possibly the worst company I have ever come accross,
clearly untrained staff giving half hearted and scripted excuses and apologies
for the too numerous problems that I had, I am free of them now and would
not advise anyone to use them for anything, burn any junk mail they send
you just in case the bin men read it. ...Owen....12 January 2002

NTL have become very popular with students as they are quite
obviously cheaper than BT. However my advice, after I have just received
a bill for £453 which I do not owe, would be to leave well alone.
The customer service has been, at all times, horrific. Absolute farce
of a company.

I have signed up for the £5 unmetered internet
service and have not been able to get onto the internet properly since.
They claim that the server is being updated, yet when you look at the
service disruption page nothing is indicated. They claimed my computer
was at fault and made me reinstall all software to no avail!!! then they
said it had to be the modem cable. no such luck. Now they want to send
a person around to chcek the line. If they deem the line is okay they
will charge me £50. What i dont understand is that if BT can check
at the local exchange why cant NTL. This isnt my only complaint with them.
It has been a nightmare since day one. They gave my telephone number to
someone else. They double charged me for a free month trial on sky movies.
Theie gearbox software to get onto the net disrupts antivirus programs.
they knew of this and kept it secret until recently. In one instance they
sent me instructions on how to manually install internet settings. They
were wrong. One session took me 3 hours to deciefer what they had sent
me. Try to sepak to some one there it is difficult. David... 9 April

My story is typical. My company had paid for my
phone bill for my first year with NTL so I didnt realise till
I left that they had been charging me for an extra line. Then they cut
me off when I refused to pay for this line. August last year they sent
me two identical bills at once so I paid the one I owed. They cut me off
and then sent a final demand! In a desperate attempt to get my phone reconnected
(after the usual hours spent trying to get through to customer services)I
paid the bill anyway. Didn't work - so I wrote to cancel.
As you all know this means nothing to NTL. I've written several more letters,
Complained to Oftel- who are sympathetic but toothless and 9 months later
I'm still getting bills. The only glimmer of hope is a letter in my Local
rag - Herts Advertiser - from a chap called David Chan who actually managed
to sue NTL for "a few thousand pounds" - sounds like he earned
it though with the trouble he had to get them to pay up. I wish we could
all get together to put this company out of business once and for all.
I don't think I could afford to get them to court on my own.

I had ntl installed in Mid march for Broadband/Digital
TV/Phoneline. The Broadband cuts out now and again, the TV
picture goes blank for seconds at a time and I do not yet have a phone
line. I have called, like everyone else, and listened to what sounds like
'The Police' music on hold (have found myself singing it walking down
the street). Mostly I have given up but on 3 occasions I have almost had
an orgasm when someone answered but, alas, "Unfortunately our systems
are down so i can take your details and someone will call you back"
she says. Did they? I have just called them 10 mintes ago where the nice
on hold lady tells me to call back when they are less busy between 10
& 4. What have I been doing for the past 3 months? Not sure what else
to do, or if I can be bothered working through the labyrinth that is their
front end phone system.

All I'll say, is don't sign up with them, good
technology in the hands of idiots (at the top). I've had nothing
but trouble with them. Their phone system is up the spout, sometimes it
sends you back to the begining!! Letters never get replied to, phone calls
are not always returned and an engineer told me how undertrained they
are. Useless!

I too have spent many hours in a call queue system
to try to get answers from NTL. I have been charged for the
waiting time and Oftel say they can do nothing about it. Is this a scam?
NTL keep you waiting in order to rake in the charges...
I still have no website because they won't reset my password. They won't
reply to Emails but are very quick to say I owe them money and threaten
to disconnect. I wanted Broadband because all the other schemes are rubbish
- I didn't want NTL lack-of-customer service. | BOTTOM

All sounds horribly familiar...
I have recently been having terrible problems with my (previously fine)
ntlworld internet account. I've spent about £20 on help-line calls
- three people have given me completely different solutions to the same
problems! I can't help thinking that the problem is an ntl one, not a
problem with my computer - otherwise why would it have happened without
me doing anything.
I too have asked about BB - but no response.
My wife's spent ages trying to get a bill corrected, and could only get
through to a call-centre operative, who simply recited a list of alternative
tv/phone packages available (several times over).
Good technology in the hands of clowns sounds just about right.
