We
purchased an lg washing machine from comet. As soon as it spun
it danced round the kitchen from boxing day to january the 2nd i could
do no washing (great fun with a toddler inthe house!)
An engineer came out and said it was because we have a laminate floor
in our kitchen !!!!!!!!!He advised us to put a sheet of mdf under the
machine although the instruction manual says under no circumstances do
this.
So we tried it we even took up our floor and put mdf straight on the floor
boards with no joy we fetched another engineer who said it was our joist
under the floorboards at this point my husband flipped (due to lack of
clean clothes and many hours sat on the kitchen floor messing about with
bits of wood). We eventually got a refund after everyone who works for
comet saying any washer we bought would be the same we went to miller
bros in nottingham and they were fantastic professional, caring, helpful
everything comet wernt. We got a whirlpool washer and this one doesnt move
so much for our joist!!!

We purchased an Indesit washing from Comet
in May 2002 from delivery the switch was faulty causing
the machine unusable, after numerous phone calls and getting nowhere.
I had to wait until an Engineer had to come (2 days later)and tell me
that the switch was faulty and he would have to order an new one. Two
weeks later the new switch was replaced.
Now 10 months in the bearings have gone, my wife rang on the 24 february
2003, an engineer attended on 27/2/03 to again having to order parts.
The engineer told us that the parts will be replaced today (6/3/03). Today
the parts have not arrived, Comet can not tell me when they will arrive
and therefore how long do I have to wait, for a set of bearings that be
pruchased locally or in this day and age you can guarantee 24hrs delivery???

I took out 3 extended warranties with Comet
one of which was never validated. The only reason I took
them was for the money back if no claim offer. They have now reached their
expiry date and I am unable to contact the store and the no. on the form
is no longer valid. Talk about a con.!

We Purchased the Phillips TV, Video and DVD with
surround sound in August 2001. Everything was fine, up
until around January of this year, when the TV started to intermittently
give off a loud cracking noise about every hour or so.

My washer drier that was bought from comet stopped
heating up whilst tumble drying. A comet 'engineer' came
to repair it under warranty. Within 5 minutes he had found the faulty
circuit and replaced it. After he had left the machine wouldn't spin at
all leaving it unusable, where as before i just couldn't dry with it.
After another visit 3 days later they now have to order a new fuse to
fix the fault that they caused. This is going to take 12 days before they
can come back. Not one single appology and one customer service centre
cut-off later and we are no further forward, waiting for them to call
us back.

I bought a 400 indesit gas cooker on oct 14 03 and
now its dec 13 and i have had nothing but hassle until
i phoned the cons/advise in my town and within 1 hour they sorted it with
a brand new one. Now i was told by hull main office that the parts/spares
manager is god. Hes the one that says yes or no to a replacement etc so
thats the key GET ONTO HIM/HER not the store. They only refer the issue
to parts/spares manager. also a TIP: when buying gas cookers ALWAYS make
sure you buy a BACK BURNER COOKER not a UNDER BURNER COOKER they dont
get HOT. Mike ... 13 December 2003
=========================================
The point to after sales service is -by all
means possible not exchange a unit but repair it so that as little as
possible profit is lost. Each service centre is tallied by
how many exchanges it does and if it is too high there is trouble.
If you have a faulty unit and want an exchange the following rules apply:
1) under 28 days and an enginner needs to confirm fault before a unit
can be exchanged.
2) under a 12 months gtee the appliance has to have more than two proven
technical faults for comet to exchange it.
3) if the parts take more than 14 days to come in you are entitled to
an exchange
4) if the repair takes over 21 days you are entitled to an exchange under
the 5 star insurance
the following applies for an exchange
1) the unit is too expensive to repair
2) it takes more than *28* days to get the parts needed to repair it.

I work for Comet & have done so for several
years. There is presure for staff to sell "extended cover
on appliances & Failure to do so can lead to having your job threatened.
The presure is from the top of my company & so cascades down. Many
people do have good experiences of our "extended cover" policies.
Many Comet staff are under great presure, and because pay is so "poor
" we can't get staff of any quality to work for us. (we pay less
than Mc Donalds ! Our head office call centre staff have never been in
an actual store, so are constanly telling customers the 1st thing that
comes into their heads or just diverting them to the the wrong part of
the company! Comet staff have spent up to 30 minutes in a call queueing
system to get an item exchanged. I would like to say to customers of Comet
that the individual staff are not to blame, just the management team at
Hull who have not a clue as to how the staff and the stores are falling
to pieces. Although you would think from the Kingfisher share price that
someone in the City is a little more observant than Sir Geoff, our glorious
leader.

I too have worked for Comet, 4 near 5 years.
If staff do not obtain sufficient extended guarantees or in store
accounts, they can get a disciplinary action against them. However those
who take a fag break every hour on the hour are fine!
I would not have said 5 out of 6 years was that bad a deal, compared to
some! And you're complaining even havin taken out an extended guarentee
- proof you can not satisfy anyone who makes a purchase. I bought the
money back gurantee whilst working there & was lucky enough to get
my money back as no fault developed on what I bought. Tho it took some
doing as I lost some paperwork they required, after 5-6 weeks I got a
cheque for the amount I paid. Just remember to buy yourself a 5year diary,
its not easy remembering, let alone finding your certificate 5 years on!

I bought a washing machine in May 2002. I
took out Comets accidental damage cover over the next 3 years. I dropped
a cup on the glass of the machine (I'd left the door open and it smashed).
Comet messed around with after sales liason with their insurance division
and many other depts, and I am still waiting for a repair man after 2
unsuccessful days waiitng in.
