I also have an Indesit but
my complaint is direct with manufacturer as after two years it has developed
a major baring fault and will have to be scrapped I believe I can sue
up to six years under Sale of Goods Act. Indesit want me to pay for an
inspection Anne Jordan...9 February 2003
I am taking Indesit to small claims court as guarantee is not
worth paper its printed on. With these Consumer programmes on TV Manufacturers
and retailers are not frightened of mere threat anymore. it costs £27
to claim £199.99 more for higher amounts. County Court can give
forms its really very simple and I would recommend to anyone.

I bought a goodmans colour television model number
295ns on the 22nd Dec 2002 and i have had to borrow a portable tv because
i have no other tv in the house. The fault with the tv
meant that it had to be taken away and fixed . with company policy being
that they only replace the tv if its not fixable. and the company they
dont give compensation or a replacment set while they are fixin the tv
.this in my opinion is wrong as the tv set is only 4months old and i paid
cash for it. Peter Shaw..3 May 2003

I find the comments on this page very interesting.
I have also had extremely shoddy service from comet when I purchased a
32" toshiba television at a price of some £960. The set was
delivered without its base unit (which is all part of the style of the
TV). I called them to report it straight away and was told the base is
not in stock but it should be soon and they would call me back to arrange
delivery. After 2 weeks had passed and still no base i phoned again and
they (suprise suprise) had no record of me calling. I then went out and
purchased a temporary base so I could at least use the thing. Then after
5 weeks of use the set broke down and lost red tones in the picture.
I requested a new set which they said they could not do since it is out
of its 28 day money back/exchange period and a fully qualified service
engineer would call to repair it. He eventually turned up, took the back
off, wiggled a few wires and completely broke it. Then he scratched his
head and said it needs a workshop repair. It was away for 2 WEEKS during
which i was left staring at a blank wall before it was returned. The repair
lasted about 5 hours before the same problem re-appeared. Again, all they
would offer was a further repair.
After speaking to trading standards (who were not exactly interested)
I reluctantly agreed to another repair. The set has now been away for
another 2 weeks and all i get when i phone is "parts are on order".
They have actually now sent a base unit for the set. The wrong base unit.
I called about this and they said they would sort out the new base and
deliver it to me on thursday 19/06/03. I called to confirm the delivery
date today and they have no record of agreeing to send the base out and
collect the wrong one.
How can companies who operate in such a shoddy manner be allowed to continue
trading and ripping off the customer? it seems to me that once they have
your money they dont give a rats about you. Lee Dixon.. 18 June

I bought a TV splitter (Proline) for £5.49
from Comet store in Newport (Maesglas) on 21st June 2003,
I tried to use it on my TV but it was to large to fit in the back of my
Daewo TV, when I tried to return it I was flately refused by the store
manager who stated that there was notices all over the shop stating no
return if the goods were opened. The notices were so obvious that even
he didnt notice the sign 10yrds from the counter. His unfriendly manner
& attitude was very unhelpful and not what i would have expected,
it certainly wasnt the attitude from the staff when I originally brought
the item.
The desciption of the splitter did not indicate it could only be used
on certain TV's infact it looks like a universal splitter and the only
way of finding out whether it fitted or not, was to open the packet and
offer it upto the TV, which I did and hence found it did not fit. The
cost is only small, however this could have been handled a lot better.
I have shopped at Comets before in the past, however, I have never experienced
this type of attitude or problem probably because I have never tried to
return any goods. I would be grateful if someone could reply to my email.

In response to mr Bennet who returned the tv splitter.
I have just had a similiar thing happen to me with comet . I
recently purchased a pc game controller for £4.96, however when
we got it home we discovered it was not a usb connection unaware of their
no opened goods refund policy my partner tried to get a refund after a
long grumble with the assistant a refund was agreed. however the refund
is now being sent by cheque for £4.96 in the post. I thought this
rather silly having to wait two weeks for a cheque we were not offered
an exchange only when i protested about the cheque the manager who was
rather rude to both his staff and me admited the mistake had been made
but refused to change it. I for one won't be shopping at comet again their
attitude stinks!this happened at the Hendon store London ...

Ordered a dishwasher and fridge freezer package
from Comet.co.uk. Fridge and dishwasher delivered on time.
freezer delivery promised on certain dates and delayed several times.
If they are selling the two items as a package, it would be reasonable
to expect them both to be available. Can't speak to the Customer Service
Manager to complain as they have a backlog of people waiting to complain.
Have cancelled that part of the order and am now going elsewhere. It's
not good when you can't even process a complaint with a company!

else had this problem?

I bought a gas cooker in August 2000, the
cooker never worked properly as the ignition
in the oven in not staying on. I called the engineers twice under the
guarantee but the problem arose again. At this point I had to buy a small
oven which costed me 99. I then called comet the third time but I was
told cooker was not under guarantee and I should pay for fault (the same
one). The engineer came out and I refused to pay for the call out charge.
He stated that the cooker has a faulty thermostat and would cost 200 to
replace.
I wrote to customer service several times but they refused to repair or
change cooker. My solicitor wrote to comet's head office several times
but he had no reply until I threatened to take them to the Small Claims
Court. At that point they sent another engineer out who also said cooker
is faulty. At his point comet accepted to pay for repair. Once again comet
admitted the fault.I asked comet to pay for the oven I bought as a result.
They refused. I've had comet's cooker for 3 years and the oven has never
worked. A BIG inconvenience as I like to cook and entertain.
I am suing comet under the Sale of Goods Act and I will request a full
refund plus the cost of the small oven and compensation for the inconvenience
of not being able to use the comet's oven. Coming Christmas I will not
be able to cook for my extended family as I am left without an oven. I
will never buy any products from comet again. Elisabetta

We bought a Servis Washing Machine from Comet in
May 2003 - since then it has broken 4 times (in
6 months). I telephone for an engineer, who arrived promptly the next
day, only to be told that he could not mend as he did not have the parts,
and he would have to order. So he booked a return visit for the following
Wednesday. I was called the night before to be told that the parts had
not arrived, but would be in that afternoon. My next visit was arranged
for the following Monday (01/12/03) - when I asked if this could not be
sooner as the part were in I was told that Milton Keynes in only covered
on Mondays and Wednesday. The after care service of Comet is the worst
I have ever experience. Once they have got your money they don't give
2 hoots about their customers. Debbie ... 27 November

My daughter bought a 150 mobile camra phone from
comet 6 days ago, she is a student at
manchester uni, we gave here the money to buy it, as we live in wales.
A fault started on the phone 2 days after she got it,she took it back
to white city, retaial park manchester comet, they would not replace it
or give her a refund. Vodaphone themselves have said there is a fault
on it and gave her a reference no 2223xxxxx..to quote. I think that i
have no alternative but to put COMET in the small claims court at our
county court, MR B AT MANCHESTER WHITE CITY RETAIL PARK WAS VERY ABUSIVE
AND SAID THAT MY DAUGHTER WAS A LIAR AND A FRAUD,I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESION
THAT THE CUSTOMER WAS ALLWAYS RIGHT,(NOT IN HIS VIEW}.THERE IS A STATUTARY
RIGHT FOR THE CONSUMER AND SOME STORE MANAGERS THINK THAT THEY ARE ABOVE
THE LAW. WE WILL SEE...

We can beat that - we bought a computer
that failed in the first hour. The store said "This is not our responsibility. Here's
the phone number of the manufacturer -phone them."
We brought the computer in for the staff to witness that it was dead-which
they did! They refused to give a refund or exchange. We're still fighting.

I bought an indesit dish washer in february of this
year. It broke down the engineer came out to fix it. He
had to order a new pump and motor. They came in three weeks he came out
and fixed it. He left and i switched the machine on and it flooded my
kitchen floor.
I phoned comet services back and they said he couldnt come back for three
days but i insisted he came back that day. He came back and he tried to
fix it with silicone. There was a crack under the machine he said he would
have to order more new parts and said they he would be back in a week.
Week came nobody came, phoned comet and they said they couldnt get the
parts so they said the machine would be scrapped and i would get my money
back.
Told me to go to comet in the bangor store to pick another machine instead
so I went to comet to pick another machine but was told that they had
discontinued the indesit dishwasher so they told me to pick the comet
own brand for £2 more but i asked for my money back. So they gave
me the refund and i am claiming compenstation for damage done to my floor
with the water. Been waiting now 4 months they keep fobing me off.

Have ordered goods online, and given a delivery date of November 5th,
called last week to confirm this and told the 5th the goods would be delivered
and this was confirmed.
Called today(5th) and told the goods would not be getting delivered and
they don't know when, pointed that on the site it stated 2-5 days and
also the end of november.
I explained that they were still giving delivery dates and selling the
goods and I have not received the goods when stated.

In Jan 1997 I was sold a TV and a money back
warranty by Comet. The registration form was returned to Comet
within the 15 days. However after 5 years when I contacted Comet to claim
my money back I was told they had no record of the policy and I had to
write to Landmark Insurance.
I wrote to them I phoned about 15 times in an attempt to sort this out,
I even had to fax the documents when after 5 months they admitted they
had lost the documentation.
They then wrote to Comet and I had to fax the documents to Comet as Landmark
had not sent the relevant paper work to Comet. Another month passed more
phone calls to Comet in Harrow, who then sent the documents to Comet head
office in Hull.
Last week Comet head office rang inform me that I would not be paid as
I had not contacted them 5 years ago to inform them I had not received
the money back claim form.
The insurance certificate states the a claim form will be sent but gives
no time limit i.e. 30 days or 5 years.
In one of my many calls to Comet they admitted that about 700 polices
had been lost about the time our TV was bought, so I may be on in many
who is having this problem. Elisabeth Davies... 8 July 2002

Having bought a TV and DVD player,
both were declared faulty within 2 months of buying them. After being
told by one member of staff that I could bring it back in to exchange
it if I would have an engineer out to confirm that both were broken. Engineer
came out and confirmed it, lugged a massive 32 inch widescreen television
back to be confronted by very stroppy sales people declaring that the
person I would have spoken too was not in the store and that they were
not able to give me an exchange because of their "policy".
I stood my ground for about 2 hours before I was told that they would
speak to the person in the morning. They came back to me and said that
the conversation had never taken place and I would need both items repaired
- not what I wanted. I then had various heated discussions with HO who
in turn put the phone down on me twice, laughed at me and even told me
that I shouldn't leave kids in fron of the tv on their own.
All I kept getting was "we can confirm that your items are being
repaired" not what I wanted! I was also given the blub about their
"Policy". I am in the process of taken these rude people to
the small claims court. No wonder they are not the leading electrical
retailer in the country, they don't even know the Sales of Good Act. Mark....

I have just bought a DVD player from Comet.
On the sales sticker they put "NTSC/Pal playback". When i asked
one of their wonderful sales staff what that meant he told me that it
meant that the player was Multi-Region. I bought it as i mostly have region
1 discs and took it home to use. It is not multiregion at all!
I took it back to the shop within an hour of buying it and tried to get
a refund but they denied that i had even asked if it was multi region
and refused to give me my money back.
I went in the next day to see the Store manager who repeated what the
sales manager had said to me almost word for word "my satff would
not have said that" and "i have asked all the satffg who were
in yesterday and none of them said that" He refused to give me a
refund.
Comet are sickening. They do not sell a single multiregion player yet
they put NTSC/Pal playback on the stickers and then verbally lie about
what it means to customers. This enables them to sell more DVD players
than they should as all of theirs are region 2 only. Richard....16
