Has no one taken comet to the small claims
court to recover monies that are oweing under the cash
back warranties?

My Comet Five Star Warranty expired on Dec 30th
2002. On January 18th 2003, I mailed the Warranty and
Validation Certificate to the address given. Today I have received a letter
saying that they did not receive the documents into their office within
30 days. Therefore the refund cannot be made. It was a sum of more than
£200.
The form says you must send it in the 30 days after warranty expitry date
- which I did.It seems that, if it gets lost in their system, they don't
want to know. I telephoned this morning and was told to write to Landmark,
explaining the situation. After reading the comments on this website,
I can't see much help forthcoming. Colin Bunyan.... 23 February

Update on 23 March 2003: Since my
last message on Feb 23rd, Landmark have, today, offered me half of my
£220 as a goodwill gesture. I have written to let them know that
this is not satisfactory. Colin Bunyan

I am about to embark on the Money back claim process
after 5 yrs of trouble free operation of a Parkinson Cowan Cooker and
Lec Fridge. I was a bit perturbed by the comments I've read on
this website so I am adding my experiences to date as reference for other
customers:
I never received a Validated Redemption Form so I phoned Comet
today (4-MAR-03) to enquire about procedure. [N.B. all the phone numbers
and the mail to address are no longer valid on their Certificate of Insurance!
Try their new number for money back enquiries - 0870 400 33 20]
Comet advise that against my policy number, a validated redemption form
was sent out, so I must contact the underwriters, Landmark Insurance for
a duplicate. Landmark Insurance (0208 649 6868) advise that since the
policy has just expired, it is effectively 'deleted' from their system,
so they can't send a duplicate copy. Therfore I must write to them, including
a copy of the certificate of insurance and explain that I am going through
the claims process and they will help to resolve it with Comet. In addition,
I must send the original Certificate of Insurance to Comet now, so that
it gets registered within the 30 day time frame. This is what I am about
to do!

I am about to take Comet and Landmark to Court
re Cashback warrany refund Ray Aucote ... 13 March 2003
-------------------------------------
I have today filed through the Small
Claims Court online against Comet and Landmark. I
should get a result within 19 days. From all the problems I have read
about on this subject I doubt I will have any problems with my claim.
Ray Aucote...14 March 2003
--------------------------------------
Would you believe it? Comet and
Landmark are going to fight the case.
Given that I never had any problems with my validation process unlike
others here I wonder what they have up their sleeves?.
Ray Aucote...26 March 2003

A satisfactory agreement has now been reached.

After much persistance and refusal to accept the
50% offer, they have finally paid the full amount. I have
also sent another cert back (Recorded delivery) and received the correct
amount.
It has cost me dearly in mail and phone calls. But, it was worth it to
get my entitlement - eventually.Colin Bunyan... 22 April 2003

When a customer sends documents back to the cash
back office they need to check that they have all the
details that are needed for their claim they will get their money back
very easily.. customers that send these back late or
are lost this is usually an accident. to stop this from happening send
them recorded deliver so that if they are mistakenly lost you have proof
of delivery to them it makes it easier to claim your money back... yes
when things are lost they do take time to resolve but if you have the
evidence you can claim the money back without a problem. so be warned
to make sure your details are correct and you have the relevant document......
as i would say would you put £200 in the post and wait to see if
it got there the answer is NO YOU WOULDNT

I purchased an indesit washing machine from comet
in salisbury in may 2002. I had to call the service department
who fixed a major part on the 15th of April 2003. The washing I have done
since then is marked with rusty stains. I am due a callout again today
but I am concerned that I will be charged for this as the machine was
delivered a year ago today. Ihave tried on a number of occasions to ring
the service line but it seems impossible to get an answer.I am very dissatisfied
with the after sales service of the comet group

I bought a Dyson from Comet in 1998, and was sold
a 5* warranty as a condition of the price reduction I
negotiated (I never normally buy extended warranties, but this was money
back, so I couldn't lose - could I). The Dyson broke down a couple of
times, but I repaired it myself, as it was only a break in the cable as
it exits the handle housing (common problem). As such, my warranty was
unused.
At the beginning of October 2003, I copied both the validation
certificate and warranty certificate to keep for my own purposes. I typed
a letter and sent it to the Comet cash back office (address as shown on
the validation certificate). I explained in the letter that I had kept
copies of both documents, and that the originals had been sent by recorded
delivery, just so they knew.
Recorded delivery cost 92p, and proof of delivery can be obtained from
the Royal Mail website. Print this and keep it for reference (until your
cheque turns up).
I received my cheque for 49.99 just over a month after sending the claim.
So: Keep copies. Send originals by recorded delivery amd print the proof
of delivery. Write a letter explaining you have done this (so they don't
think they can get away with "losing" your claim. With any luck
your cheque should arrive within 5 weeks of sending your claim off. If
it doesn't, you should have enough ammunition to pursue them. Good luck!
