Complaint by Mr & Mrs Pica on 13 September 2001 from USA
A 2001 Ford Explorer which was leased in Feb of 2001, with 16,000 miles. The rear
passanger wheel fell completely off. The lug BOLTS, all five, broke off on the
highway. Causing the vehical to become uncontrollable. After coming to a stop,
and retrieving the wheel. We noticed all five of the lug bolts broke off the axle.
The dealership is not taking this as a warranty issue. They in turn
are telling us to contact the insurance company. The insurance company says we
ran something over, however the dealership says it's because we did not have the
tires rotated every 5,000 miles. Ford Motor Co. does not want anything to do with
this, because there afraid we will sue them. The problem is not resolved to date.
Our warranty say's "Bumper to Bumper 3 years or 36,000 miles".
What does the warranty actually cover? No one seems to know. I have talked to
the servicing manager and the insurance company. They both have conflicting stories.
Except, for them blaming us. The truck almost flipped over, and caused serious
injury, or death. I can't believe Ford is looking the other way, not to mention,
putting fault on us, the consumer. We are appauled at the situation. We will never
purchase another Ford product again. We have tried to resolve this at the dealership
level, as well as Ford corporate level, and the insurance company, which is Progressive.
Imagine if you could, if this is a problem with the Explorer, are the
insurance companies still going to insure a vehicle that is not safe, and just
collect consumers deductable. And from Ford's view point, keep a problem like
this hush from the public eye. Since the Explorer is currently on the hot seat
as it is.
Any public attention with this matter would be helpful, to
all of us...........and for the 999th time no the LUG nuts were tight, if they
were'nt, don't you think it would have been noticable?
