HAVE E-MAILED WITHOUT ANY SUCCESS - PERHAPS YOU COULD RESOLVE

Europ Assist arranged a rental for me from your Portsmouth office
on Saturday 15th June 2002. We were due to pick up the car at
1700 that day and drive back home, returning the car at 1700.
We managed, however to sail into Portsmouth on an earlier sailing
and therefore picked up the vehicle at 1300.
On Sunday the 16th, we repeatedly contacted Avis to ask how and
where to return the car but were told that the computer was down
and would not be on line until some indeterminate time in the
future. We were told by your representative that we must return
the car that day, despite our suggestions that a Vectra SRi parked
in the centre of Wrexham on Sunday night would be probably trashed
or stolen, and it was safer outside our (rural) location.
The agents tone was so obnoxious and rude that we said that we
would return the vehicle as long as Avis took responsibility once
we had left it. We returned it before 1300 on that Sunday. I received
my credit card bill last week and was astonished to find a charge
of £80 for this rental. On enquiry, I found that Europ Assist
had picked up the charge for one day's rental, but we had been
charged for a second day's rental.
You had also tried to palm off a damage charge of £30 for
the aerial that was bent when we picked it up in Portsmouth -
nice try! I had this taken off the bill. Now the only problem
here, as far as I see it is an administrative one on your part:
Our rental agreement said that we picked up the car at 1900, whereas
we picked it up at 1300 and also returned it before 1300 hrs next
day. THAT IS ONE DAY'S RENTAL.
I therefore demand that credit my credit card with £50
before the 31st August 2002. My Company, Cytec Inc has a global
partnership agreement with Avis and is one of your significant
Customers. I have never run into this kind of problem with business
rentals so do not expect it with private ones.
