Yell delivers a website design and set up service that causes
one to yell out ...for all the wrong reasons, but even that doesn't
appear to have evoked a response.....
I was contacted by Yell.com who persuaded me to open a website
page with them, made by them and hosted by them. I agreed. I was
told it would take 3 weeks to complete the site but that my domain
name should be registered immediately (cost £70+). After
a couple of weeks I realised that my domain name had not even
been registered and anybody could have taken the name! Finally
it was registered and the website (1 page) produced. The page
was not just extremely basic - it was completely incorrect.
It had horrendous spelling and grammatical error in it. It says
we give 'free quotations' when in fact the service as a whole
is 'free'. Even the word "management" in our title is
spelt incorrectly. The grammar of the last paragraph is appalling.
Anybody viewing this website would, I am sure, find it very amusing!
... Having contacted yell.com to put it
right 23 days ago from the time of writing (!) and was promised
it would be improved promptly, there is STILL no change.
Nothing has been done to improve this website. We have now got
tougher and this week we gave them 24 hours to put it right otherwise
we wanted to withdraw. We have not even had the courtesy of a
telephone call or an email ... nothing! The website in question
is www.asevents.co.uk
and it is still there in its appalling state today (look at the
price for this!) ... Undoubtedly (and hopefully for the our sake)
this will soon be withdrawn but at present it still sits there.
Yell.Com meantime appear to have disappeared! ... Some sort of
contact back would have been a help ... but ... nothing!... ???
I have visited the site and it is amazing that Yell.com has billed
Ms Maurer £380.00 for such poor quality work. There can be
no excuse for a 23 day wait to have these errors put right. We have
issued a Right of Reply letter to Yell's Berkshire address.
update 13 September 2001
"I have today at last heard from Yell.Com and they have offered
us a FREE link (worth £190) to Yell.Com with the website that
I am now building myself. I would consider this to be reasonable
compensation so I would now withdraw my complaint."
