I entered into a double glazing contract with Weatherseal on
5th July 2001. I paid them £5000 for this on August 29.
Windows were installed OK, but contract included patio doors which
were delivered in the wrong size. Was left with patio doors over
lapping and nailed shut from 29 August 01 until 24 October 01.
New doors were still not right - They required two replacement
pieces of glass. These were not fitted until early November 01
and the pvc surrounds were damaged during the replacement of one
of the pieces of glass.
New facings were ordered and the fitter arrived to replace these
yesterday. The incorrect pieces had been ordered and no work was
carried out. I had negotiated a discount of £700 on the
£3700 which was still outstanding on the contract.
Later on in the day however, a surveyor arrived without any warning
from Weatherseal and informed me that he did not believe that
any of their fitters had caused the damage.
I believe that they are now trying to fudge the issue of their
incompetence. They have not told me whether they intend to finish
the work to my satisfaction, or whether they will simply refuse
to take responsibility for a problem I advised them of last November.
This is an abridged version of a very long saga which has be
ongoing since August 01 and I feel I have now hit a brick wall.

"Jon,
Received a call from Weatherseal and they are sending a manager
out to discuss the situation on Tuesday of next week. Will let you
know the outcome.
Was also told at the time of signing the contract that a bukiding
warrant was required and an amount was included in the price. This
seemed to have been forgotten, but a surveyor is now also coming
out to measure the doors.
Regards, Dawn Maginnis"

"Manager from Weatherseal vivisted us Tuesday. First person
we have had any contact with who seemed prepared to listen take
our complaint seriously. He was sympathetic and amazed that the
job had taken so long and had gone so badly. He is sending a builder
out to check on the work, has ordered replacement pieces and is
quite happy to discuss compensation. Still a way to go, but at least
I feel someone has now taken control of the job and is dealing with
it as a priority. Pity someone couldn't have done that in August.
Will keep you posted. Dawn Maginnis"
