Mr Robert Burton: 26 November 2002
I am a season ticket holder at Tottenham Hotspur football club.
They are offering holders who can not make it to a game a £20
voucher to be used in their shop.
They will then sell your ticket which you have paid for months
in advance at full price. I feel once again that the fan is being
ripped off.
They advertise it as they want fans to see the game but it is
just another way to make money at our expense. If we can not use
it we should be able to give it away. I have not been in touch
with the club as I am still awaiting a reply from a letter I wrote
them in October.

We notified the Football Club of Mr Burton's complaint before
publishing because of the line in
his submission "I have not been in touch with the
club". |

Thank you for enabling us to comment on this issue. We recently
piloted a scheme where Season Ticket Holders could hand in their
tickets if they were unable to make a particular match and as
a result get a £20 gift voucher in the Club store.
This was seen as a service to fans who were unable to make the
match, and as they had invested in a season ticket they should
at least get something if they were unable to attend. It also
gave fans that could make it the chance to see the game instead
of seats being empty.
It is unfortunate that this is Robert's reaction to the scheme,
I must say that other fans have contacted the Club to praise the
idea, however we do value the feedback and it will certainly be
taken into consideration.

And did the club ever reply to Roberts
letter of October ? That in it self is poor service.
Fans are the back bone of any club.

Moan, moan, moan. Hey
Robert, what existed before the scheme? Nothing!
You couldn't officially sell your season ticket, and therefore it
went to waste (I'm sure you could try to give it away if you want
to, but speaking as a fellow spurs season ticket holder, sometimes
you can't even give 'em away!). Now someone gets to see the game,
the stadium is fuller with more atmosphere, and you get £20
to spend on sportswear. Who loses? Paul Drake..25 May 2003
