I bought components from overclockers.co.uk on the 25th of June
2002 to the amount of £600
I purchased the abit kx7333r motherboard volcano7+cooler 512
corsair ddr xms2700 cas2 ram .gainward geforce 4 4200 128mb vivo
card.1900xp amd cpu. I thought I was buying a super system but
instead I got a duffer.
From the start the bios wouldn't recognise the cpu in auto so
I phoned overclocker and spoke to Mr Lee Jackson. He then talked
me through the manual setup to get the correct settings he had
to set the bus speed to 138 instead off 133 so I said I was not
happy at that but would try for a while to see if it runs alright.
Then it started acting up it would not recognise the graphics
card on restart unless I shut the pc down fully then restart.
Sometimes I had to restart the machine several time before it
would bring on the monitor. I thought it was a cpu problem so
they said to send the motherboard & cpu back to them, so they
said no fault found that the bios needed setting up and sent the
same board and a 1800xp cpu to which i complained it should have
been a 1900xp cpu so they sent the correct cpu. I then complained
about the system not starting correctly.
They eventually agreed that there was something wrong with the
motherboard and replaced it or so they said. But it was not in
a sealed box. That was on the 15 July then the graphic card started
to act up I ended up with 4bit graphics so they replaced the card
with a leadtek geforce4 4400 128 vivo that seamed to work for
a while then the same problem of having to restart the pc to get
it to find the graphics card so by now.
I'm getting a bit angry I ran the pc for 4 weeks without switching
it off. It was ok but my internet went down for three days so
I thought id give the pc a bit of a rest and shut it down for
1 day. When i tried to start the pc all that happend was a small
surge of the fans and nothing so i was on the phone to oveclockers
again and got Mr Dan Lee. He said send it to another shop and
have it tested which I refused. I said I bought it from you so
I'll send it back. He said 'no go and try your cpu on some other
pc' I said I didnt know anyone that would let me try that in fear
it would damage theirs.
However one of my friends said he would try it so while i was
taking the cpu out the guide on the cooler clip broke, the screwdriver
slipped of and damaged the core of the cpu now ive taking this
cooler off about 10 times before its an extra heavy cooler with
a strong clip. I had to fashion a tool from a bent screwdriver
and I was very careful but how can you foresee the guide being
faulty. Overclockers did not believe me. So now im left with a
damaged cpu that did not work before it was chipped, a cooler
with a damaged clip, a motherboard with problems. I still would
like to know why ive had 2 motherboards 2graphics cards 2 cpus
& looking for a third.
Something is not right. Ive said this to Mr Andrew Farrington
the manager but he says he's not a tech and relys on Mr Lee whom
has never seen the motherboard or other stuff. I said I would
send back all components but he refused as far as he's concerned
I've damaged the cpu and thats i had to pay for all returns can
you imagine the price for phone calls, no wonder that people are
afraid to buy over the net this was my first and only purchase
on the internet if other companies are the same as this God help
us.
On Tuesday the 17th sep I phoned Mr Farrington asking him to return
the cooler & damaged cpu along with a letter stating why they
would not replace the cpu. On friday the 20th I phoned again but
was put through to Mr Dan Lee who said they could not find my
address. I found this to be peculuar as I have 5 reciepts from
them with my address typed on them. I also asked if I could return
the rest of the components for there must be a reason for all
these components going down, but he refused to accept them. As
far as they are concerned the goods work fine. If thats so they
must be sending substandard cpus,i have received the cooler and
damaged cpu from overclockers on 21st sep with a receipt saying
'warranty void core damaged'.
