Phoned NTL and cancelled my account...sent a letter (as requested) to customer services confirming that my account should be closed.

Imagine my surprise when NTL continued to take £15 monthly out of my credit card.

Phoned them today (9/06/03) to be informed that: "They never recived my letter" as a result they refuse to cancel my account (until they receive another letter) and will not refund the monies taht they have taken from my card.

Total lack of interest/response to my concerns...from reading other peoples experinces, it seems I have joined a considerable band of very unhappy (former) customers.

I agree with all the complaints with NTL. All I want to do is disconnect but I can never get through to the company to do so.

Was emailed by NTL to phone a free number regarding compensation for inconvenience caused last year during Oct. Nov.Dec.on bradband, could not use email.
When I phoned the free number I was transferred to a paid number with out my knowledge. I was annoyed, as nothing was being sorted outover half an hour wasted on the phone and person was rude. Since then he has put my phone on hang up. I can not use my phone. Is this a way to provide service. The person should be sacked. Would you connect my phone immediately and compensate for the inconvenience and harrassment caused

I cancelled my account on moving house in August 2003. They then charged me 74 for August's subscription and promised to send it back in September after another account cycle. Didn't. Queried it again, with the same response. In December I phoned and said I wanted the money back now and they said they would raise a cheque, which feat would require three weeks. These three weeks are about to elapse; all I have had is another statement showing a 74 credit balance.

Fancy failing to close down an account when I move out of area, never mind having to phone them three times to get it sorted! If the cheque isn't here within a week now we'll be going to the court.

Have had a very similar experience disconnecting my service.

Dec 02 - Phoned: couldn't get through.
Dec 02 - E-mailed: no reply
Dec 02 - Wrote: no reply (later told they did not receive letter)
Feb 03 - Wrote again: finally got a response because my tenant had amassed a £400 bill of international calls on the account they had failed to close.
Account closed!
Apr 03 - still charging line rental!
Just found this site: think I'll make a proper posting.

Sounds familier! I cancelled my account with NTL - guy turned up on time and day agreed (I was amazed!) Moved out of the house only to find I was still being charged for my phone. They even had a credit agency ring twice saying I owed them 2.50!! L.Buckley .. 30 October 2003

The 56k Dial up package from NTL is now more or less totally uselss.
The response times vary from 1 minute or so to never in a million years which results in frequent email crashes and even more frequent page not found errors..... Try and report the problem to NTL (HELL)and you get a premuim rate charge for the privelage of telling them there sevice is not up to scratch. They also will try and convince you that its down to a computer virus and not their fault at all ...... mmmmmm! What a waste of time and sham this service has now become (must earn them big bucks though in premium rate telephone charges). Perhaps they will change their company name again and pretend to be a better ne and improved caring company. NTL have now become NT HELL (a much better name me thinks)

NTL Home's cavalier customer care style.
I cancelled my contract with NTL 3 months ago because of the shoddy service provided. I continued to receive bills which when I queried them was told that NTL would take a direct debit then refund the money they were not entitled to in the first place. NTL Home could not see why I would object to this arrangement and cancel the direct debit.

On recieving bills 3 months after the cancellation showing my credit I asked NTL home to return the money owed to me. Only at this point did they ask for the return of the NTL box. I cannot wait for NTL to collect on a week day and after persistence they agreed to collect today (22/11/03) between 12 and 17:30. They have not done so. Yet more of my time calling NTL. I consider that they made a verbal contract to collect their dodgy equipment, and I am therefore within my rights to dispose of it. NTL would however like me to ruin my evening as well as my day. If I dispose of the equipment they will charge 500 (yes FIVE HUNDRED POUNDS) for a digital receiver.

No wonder this company has a reputation that stinks in London. They obviously don't give a damn about the inconvenience to their customers which results from their core service being complete pants.

Phoned for a service, letter with details arrived and was not what was requested.
Emailed twice to cancel - no replies. Tried to call several times - no answer or return of call when details left. Eventually got through by choosing a 'more information' option. Advised that this assistant couldn't cancel, but would pass on my details to cancellations department.

Almost 2 weeks later, discover 15 has been taken from my account. Complained by email - no reply. Called up - advised my details would be sent to head office and they would reply within 72 hours - time is up and I'm still waiting. Off to call yet again, but from other postings, I'm not too confident of a response. In mean time, my flat mate has spoken to BT who were reporting situation to Oftel. K. Jack ... 27 November 2003

I'm not alone!!
1. May 03 - advised NTL my my wish to cancel (I needed broadband)
2. June 03 - told them again having heard nothing.
3. July 03 - cancelled DD and went elsewhere for broadband
4. Aug 03 - had nasty reminders but couldn't get through on phone.
5. Sept 03 - more nastly letters from NTL but I did get through. They cancelled my account and accepted payment by C-Card (to shut them up).
6 - Dec 03 - have received letter from bailiff type company for 30 ! !
More sleepless nights cos of their incompetence :-(
