On monday 4th august 2003 I booked my mondeo in to have the locks
changed at Allen Ford. The job involved changing two door locks
and the boot lock. The job was supposed to take 4 hours to complete.
Monday evening when I hadn't heard from the garage I phoned them
to find out if the car was ready, I was told there had been some
problems and they needed to order some parts. As the car was in
a bad13t into the car. The mechanic came out and tried to get
in but had to climb in through the boot to unlock the door.
This is when I discovered that they had not fitted the passenger
side door lock at all and none of the drivers door had been put
back together. To make it worse the steering lock was now permantly
on where they had messed around with the ignition. They refused
to fix this problem saying it was like that when they recieved
the car and I needed to pay £700 for a new steering column
to be fitted.
In all fairness when they recieved the car the steering
column was damaged but I had no problems with the steering lock,
it was working perfectly. When I asked why the work was
not completed i was given lots of pathetic excuses such as I never
gave them all the locks.
When I pointed out the lock they hadn't fitted was on the passsenger
seat the 'fully traind Ford mechanic' told me that the passenger
door opens with any key, so when I tried to open it and it didn't
open he walked away. So I went back into reception and asked for
my money back until the job is complete.
I did get my money back after some grief. Later that evening I
received a phone call saying the car is ready to pick up, I asked
some specific questions such as have all the locks been changed
and the response was "the car came to us in a state and that's
how it is".
So the position I am in at the moment is I have to pay Allen Ford
£350 and have my car towed away and all they said they will
do is take £10 off the bill to cover my taxi cost gettting
there.
