... a case of the book that got away? "they
keep saying that the book has been despatched but it never arrives"
At the end of May 2001, I ordered 4 books from this company -
I needed to buy 3 in order to fulfil my part of the contract,
the fourth book should have been part of a "buy 2 get one
free" deal - three books arrived in good time - the fourth
book was actually only just due out and on the delivery note it
said awaiting delivery.
I duly paid the account total on 8 June and awaited delivery of
the final part of the order. I am still
waiting for that book to arrive - numerous
emails and phone calls have got me nowhere - now I cannot
even get to speak to an actual person as their automated response
does not offer that option - they keep saying that the book has
been despatched but it never arrives.
They are now saying I should nominate a post office and have it
delivered there - I cannot see why as I have received books previously
without problem.
I am now so fed up I would just either like a refund or the book
delivered so I can cancel my membership - please see if you can
do any better. Thanks .
update 26 September 2001
I received the following follow up from the
customer:
"Well I did eventually receive two copies of the
same book on the same day, casually left sitting on top of my mailbox
- despite their protestations that I must be out when previous deliveries
were attempted - no one actually even knocked n the door the morning
they were delivered - however they offered me £5 by way of
compensation - but when my latest statement arrived the £5
seems to have been mysteriously swallowed up by charging me again
for this book which should have been a free item and also charging
me for post and packing - quite honestly I don't know if I have
the will to challenge them anymore - I feel like simply cancelling
my account - but I might have one last ditch attempt to sort it
out by phone - if I can actually manage to get through to a person
and not an automated system - thanks for your site anyway it at
least made me feel like I was doing something else rather than just
banging my head against a brick wall - I will recommend you to other
similarly frustrated consumers! By the way I don't think Escape
have actually responded because of my communication to yourselves!

=================================
It is now a month since I requested
my account to be cancelled. But I am still being
sent books which I have never ordered and on top of that I have
to pay for them including the despatch and return service charge,
Honestly, I am not going to pay because I never asked for any books.
thank you

Currently in Australia on holiday I THOUGHT
I had dealt with the problem of books arriving whilst I was not
there. Have email to confirm this. Not so! I have
had editors choice delivered! As my friends wife is very ill I am
accepting these books and they will be paid for but I wish to cancel
my membership if this is the best you can do. I can do without extra
hassle from you at this time. Margaret Fennell ... 5 August

My wife Helen Murphy membership number 03xxxxxxx
has been trying to contact Escape to say she has not received books
dispatched on 15/11/03. She cannot get past the
automated telephone system to speak to the customer care line team.
However an invoice for 27.27 including post & packing is now
waitng to be paid. Will somebody at escape fiction please speak
to her. It would be easier to pay than waste any more time on phone
calls etc but perhaps thats what they want. J.A.Murphy ...
