I decided to buy a new rear projection TV and noticed empire
direct were offering one of the best prices. Having no luck with
comet or currys due to the fact that none of these carried the
stock and you have to wait I thought give empire a try.
I purchased a Samsung 47 inch LCD widescreen TV and was delivered
in 4 days. I set the TV up and noticed a fault in the bottom corner
on the screen- 3 colors going up in a 2 inch pyramid shape. I
called Empire and someone was out 4 days later. Instantly he said
it had to be changed and a new one was ordered.
After 4 weeks no TV and no phone calls so I contacted Empire and
a week later when I managed to get through as I have better things
to do work wise than spend hours on end trying to get through
on the phone, I got a reply, yes you guessed it , they need an
engineers report before they can do anything.
4 weeks and no report , another 4 weeks and finally I blow my
top and I inform them that I now am canceling altogether and was
told the TV would be picked up by courier, so on 23/11/2002 2
guys (no uniform, plain white van) called and pushed the TV down
my cobbled drive without lifting it , god knows what damage that
could have caused. They put it in the van and drove off.
I now have no TV and no refund of my £1709.97 which thank
god i paid by credit card. They never mentioned anything when
I said I was canceling instead they said they would see if it
can be fixed and returned. No chance specialy with the way it
was picked up.
So all in all I reported this on the 21/09/2002 and still have
not resolved the problem. Their after sales service is a disgrace
and I feel I will have problems getting my money back, but watch
this space I will keep you all informed.
The only good thing I can say is that empire were approx
£700 cheaper than Currys or Comet on the price of the TV
