We purchased a Dyson DC07 in 2002. It had numerous problems and
after much hassle Dyson agreed to change it 5 weeks ago.
The new machine is even worse than the old one when it comes to
actually vacumming. It fails to pick up most dust and dog hairs,
although it is the Animal version which is supposed to be designed
for homes which have pets.
We have had the Dyson engineer to look at it and he agrees that
it does not pick the dirt up but he states that it is working
as well as a DC07 ever will. His opinion was that the DC07 was
the worst machine Dyson ever made.
We have tried in vain to get Dyson to change the machine for a
DC04, as these seem to work, or give us a refund to allow us to
buy a different machine but they have refused on the grounds that
our machine is working as a DC07 should even though it is not
as good as other machines.
On top of this they have also stated that even though the machine
is under guarantee we will still be charged if we call the engineer
out again. We are now left with a machine which cost £289
but does not do what it was bought for.
update from Mr Alvin on 12 November
2003:
I am the original complainant. Dyson
eventually sorted the problem with the machine and we were assured
our guarantee would be honored.
Today my wife tried to get dyson to send a replacement hose
as ours had split and was told we have an unpaid invoice outstanding
and once again we would not get any parts or service unless we paid
for them. We have finally decided enough is enough and are seeking
legal advice as what dyson are doing is clearly against the guarantee
and victimisation.

=================================
We purchased a dyson DCO4 in april
2001 and have had 3 new brush bars as the machine
kept vibrating and so was told it was the brush bar so this was
replaced twice by post, as the agent makes you do tests with the
hoover while you are on the phone, and i insisted that a repair man
was sent out the third time we had to call, and once again he said
it was the bearings in the brush bar, but the noise was still there
and so he changed the motor and the cable flex.
This seemed to make it quiet for acouple of days but is now making
the same vibrating noise.we took out extra cover with this and have
been told that we have to use this cover as the manufacturer warranty
has elappsed.why should we have to use the cover that we took out
when this is an ongoing problem which keeps re occuring.Iwould not
recomend this make or model or company to any one as it seems they
havnt got a clue how to repair these goods or what is the overall
problem.

I bought a washing machine from Dyson.
It was faulty and did not work on the first go. I had to
call and get the machine changed as I was informed a new part was
needed. within 6 months it started chewing a shirt. After complaint
it was stated my machine was not plumbed in correctly although it
was done by Comet. No compensation was available but The problem
was rectified and last week I find it has chewed my husband's new
trouser. Has anyone had the same experiance with Dyson?

We purchased a DYSON DC04 in July 2000
to repalce an acient Electrolux, which had given sterling
service. In September 2001 the motor burnt out - nearly causing
a fire - Dyson replaced it under guarantee.
In May 2002 the motor again burnt out and Dyson replaced it, as
it was still under their guarantee. In September 2003 the motor
again burnt out after nearly catching fire. On contacting Dyson
Customer Services I was told It was out of Guarantee and it would
cost £49.00 Call out fee plus £79.00 for a new motor.
The Customer Service Manager was most rude and intimated it was
my tough luck. They did not seem to understand that when you buy
a domestic product you expect it to last more than a year without
the major component breaking down. I will NEVER buy another Dyson
again.

Having bought a Dyson DC04 within 4 months
the motor has packed up, after a flying visit from
an engineer at 0720am over a week and a half ago still no sign of
a return visit to replace the motor. I called Dyson to be told that
the motors had just came in but they would need to be checked prior
to despatch ,that is all very well but with 2 young children 2 weeks
without a hoover is a long time, and as yet no satisfactory answer
from Dyson as to when to expect repair. I must say that considering
the price of the Dyson, the service is quite poor.

Interesting reading, all these complaints
about Dyson hoovers. My DC04 is 3 years old and
my complaint is fortunately not as bad as the others featured.
It is, for me, more a design fault. I have always hated the way
the debris/dust makes such a mess when the holder is removed. So
much for having filters - they should supply one for your mouth,
in the form of a dust mask!
I think the machine may have consistent sucking power, but at 1200
watts, the suction is average. In my mind, this machine is an overpriced
£240 piece of plastic, where the basics really are wrong -
even the cable retraction works miserably, not to mention that the
tool holder which sits on the pipe forever hits furniture and marks
walls etc, regardless of its position on the pipe!!
I have become so fed up of it, that I have just purchased a great
Miele (you can't beat German!!!) where suction is 1800w, and with
a dustbag which automatically seals itself upon removal!! Tara Dyson,
forever!

I am an engineer and was asked to check out
a Dyson cleaner. The motor had failed. The friend

cleaned filter still cuts out after only a few minutes of cleaning.

I've got a Dyson and it knocks any other vacuum
cleaner I have used into a cocked hat. At that price,
it should! I was fed up with running a machine over a carpet umpteen
times an seeing no difference. It no longer happens. The machine
was supplied with one of the attachments missing, but a phone call
to customer care produced the required part within a few days.

I too had a Dyson vacuum cleaner which worked
well but was let down by the terrible quality of the plastic fittings.
The hose spilt in two places after just two months and the handle
of the cleaning tube broke. I gave it to a friend and bought a Miele
which is a fantastic cleaner and is great quality.

Dyson keeps cutting out, I
have a similar problem to Ms Macleod. I have also cleaned filter
but the DC07 cuts out after about 5 minutes. When it does work the
suction is not as powerfull as it originally was. Any
one got any ideas?
