Deep Pan Pizza

Dedicated Page in the Public Domain
Complainant:
Ms L Ingamells
Town/City of Residence:
Lincs, Boston

My daughter and I visited the Deep Pan Pizza in Skegness 9th June this year, to have lunch. My daughter was eating potato salad, when there was sharp prick in the roof of her mouth. She removed from her mouth a shard of plastic about one inch long.

We informed the female manager, who apolosised, completed a form and attached the plastic to it. She informed us that this would be sent to head office to be investigated, and that head office would contact us.

Nearly three months has elapsed, and we have not even had an acknowledgment of this incident. I have phoned the Skegness branch on at least 5 occasions, and each time the manager on duty has contacted H.O. who have promised to write to me and on one occasion H.O phoned me, apologised profusely and told me a letter would be sent out the next day to me.

That was over two weeks ago, (from 6 September 2002) and still I have heard nothing from them. I am absolutely disgusted. I am sick of being fobbed off, and would like to take this further.

Ms Ingamells has been contacted by DeepPan or has she?....read a copy her email:

"Dear Mr. McTaggart,
This sorry saga appears unending! If I were prone to paranoia I would be believing by now that your company has some personal grudge against me

The postman presented me with a letter today, asking for a fee of £1.64 to cover recorded delivery fee and postage. Needless to say, this letter was from you! The postman informed me that the sender had not paid the relevant fee.

I understand from your office that this letter contains £30 worth of vouchers for Deep Pan Pizza. I have refused the letter, and no doubt it will be returned to you in due course.

Do you really think I should be paying anything to receive a letter from you? Furthermore, do you honestly believe that vouchers for your restaurants are any use to me, when I will never enter a Deep Pan Pizza building again? Also, do you really think that £30 is a reasonable figure to cover all the inconvenience your company has put me to? I must have spent nearly that in telephone calls alone! Please have an urgent re-think, Mr. McTaggart. I hope to hear from your in the very near future. A copy of this email has been sent to clik2complaints team. Linda Ingamells"

update on 27 September 2002
I have just taken a 'phone call from Kim at DPP. Kim has checked with the post office, and doesn't know why there has been a problem, as she assures me that the correct fees were paid.

She wanted to know why I would not accept £30 of vouchers, which I have explained to her, although I did put this in my email.Kim asked me what I would be willing to accept, and I told her that a cheque of similar value would be acceptable. She needs to speak to someone and will get back to me on Monday.

Kim further added that the person who should have dealt with my original complaint has now left the company, and obviously wasn't doing her job properly. Linda Ingamells.

Dear Mr. McTaggart, Kim from your office telephoned me last Friday. She said that she would 'phone me again on Monday. It is now Thursday, and I have heard nothing from anyone at Deep Pan Pizza.Linda Ingamells

7 October 2002
Dear Mr. McTaggart, Further to my email of 3.10.02., which as yet remains unanswered, this is to inform you hat Kim from your office should have 'phoned me a week ago, 30.9.02. as promised.

It is now a week later, 7.10.02., and I have still heard nothing from her! Last week, your company had the opportunity to redeem itself, either by email, letter or telephone call, but no, here I am still having to chase up this issue.

Will someone from your office please have the basic courtesy of contacting me forthwith. In two days' time, it will be four months since this sorry situation began. Linda Ingamells.

I am thoroughly disgusted at how Deep Pan Pizza has treated Ms Ingamells and her family. I hope they have more luck in the future. If I were her I would seriously consider legal advice.

I'm right behind Miss Ingamells -
you go girl (and if you don't want the £30 in vouchers I'll happily dispose of them for you).

I would love to be right behind Ms Ingamells but I m afraid I dont live near Skegness.
I had a similar experience from a doughnut caravan there once and never managed to get any suitable satisfaction. We watch with anticipation. Dont let go until you are completely satisfied, thats what I say.N. Evrenuff....25 October 2002

I've had many disappointments at Skegness.
Never trust the promise of 12" of cheesy crusty satisfaction.

Editor's Note: I believe Deeppan is owned by City Centre Restaurants Uk Ltd (CCRUK). We emailed katrinaf@ccruk.com but no response to date.

I've e-mailed a complaint about hygiene and service issues to katrinaf@ccruk.com last week
and have heard nothing. When complaints are not dealt with in house at time of complaining it makes persuing issues a total pain in the ****! My recent experience at the Derby restaurant was appalling and perhaps the worst I have ever encountered! A. Lowe, Nottingham...22 February 2003

If you have a complaint about a hygiene issue in any food premises, the Environmental Health Department of your Local Authority should be contacted. They are able to impartially inspect premises and prosecute if appropriate. Tim T.. 2 March 2003

I cannot understand why Ms. Ingamells didn't contact the local authority Trading Standards
/Environmental Health Dept and make a formal complaint there. There would seem to be clear breaches of the law relating to the food she was offered not being of the substance or quality which she was led to believe. I suggest that even at this late stage she should take this action, and show the relevant departments copies of all correspondence to date. R. McGarry ... 10 August 2003

As a matter of principle,
I will never eat at Deep Pan ever again. They're treatment of this customer is a disgrace.
