Would you buy an extended warranty if you knew you had to wait
2 months for the item to be repaired? I went for the 2 year extended
warranty on my Indesit washing machine purchased from Comet. Little
did I know that Comet subcontracts the maintenance on Indesit
machines to an organisation called Merloni who are allegedly known
for their inefficiency and ineptitude.
My washing machine broke down in the middle of March, I have had
5 visits from engineers who have each just repeated the action
of the previous visit, until admitting that I needed a new part.
Whatever this new part is, it takes 2 engineers to fit, so the
lead time from the part arriving at Merloni's offices until the
visit to my home, which is scheduled for tomorrow, has been 2
weeks.
In short I will have waited almost 2 months for a resolution
to the problem. In that time, I have spent around £120 at
my local launderette, more than the cost of the machine in the
first place, and also a whole heap of inconvenience.
Merloni have attempted to justify the appalling level of service
by stating that delays have occurred because they have recently
relocated. Why should I, as the consumer suffer the consequences
of this?
In any case, I purchased my extended warranty with Comet, my agreement
is with them, not with Merloni and I do not understand how Comet
can abdicate all responsibility for their own customers.

Actually, Merloni is the parent company
of Indesit, and so I think you have your facts wrong.
They are an Italian company who also manufacturer Ariston. Possibly
before coming onto the web and complaining do a little more researching.
All electrical retailers work closely with the manufacturers to
ensure machines are not written off if it is possible for them to
be repaired.
Pressure is usually applied to the electrical retailer from the
manufacturer and certainly although the contract lies with Comet,
the responsibilty will be shifted to Merloni, by order of them probably
when the buyers from Comet agreed to stock their goods. Merloni
are the manufacturers of Indesit and Ariston hence the reason they
repair it

At the end of the day,
you are right your contract is with comet, however they dont make
them! and they are not repairing it, I assume if you had contacted
them in the first place they would have came out, if i buy from
there they always tell me that they cover most guarantees any way,
unlike its competitors, sounds like you should be complaining to
merloni, and i would like to emphasise johnnie's points!!!
