To cut a long story short I ordered a £2,000 TV, ready to pay for it the assistant started banging on about the cover plan, which I did not want, after saying no the assistant kept on and on about how my TV would break down and replacement parts were hard to get hold of, I replied I will take my chances as all the TVs I've had have never broken down and I understand that the make of TV I was buying was one of the best.

After a further ten minutes of saying no! no ! no! the manager came over further persuading us that the tv was bound to break down and we were going to break it and the first year guarantee did not cover these situations!

AT this point it was about 7:55 pm and the assistant took us through to the back to submit our sale of which a last attempt to get us to have the cover failed, he then said sorry I dont have time to put the sale on please come back another time. so we left.

I know that they only make on the cover plan but i find it disgusting about the attitudes if you dont take out warranty, this is not the first time I have walked out in disgust in Comet stores.

Please refer to the chap with the JVC video that broke down only a couple of months after the manufacturers guarantee was up. Is it any wonder retailers push the guarantee, if the machine breaks down after the guarantee is up, you have people trying to take them to court. Comet uses a scheme called "customer for life" this is because if your machine breaks down you do not blame the manufacturer, you blame the retailer.

What person in their right mind would not cover a 2 grand tv?
Yes the risk is small, but then so is the price of the warranty in comparison to replacing/repairing a tube on such a tv.

Plus the fact you you were about to bugger up their figures for the day would have something to do with the rejection. Face it, retail staff are paid basic minimum wage. Commission is their only outlet for making a living wage. Even so, I know for a fact that most stores only pay sales £5 for every 5 year warranty and 1-2 for every 3 year.

They are under constant pressure from sales managers to meet store targets on things like warranties and sold-withs. Their jobs are at stake.
So next time you dont want a warranty politely decline, give good reason. And on no account make the sales persons life any harder than it already is.
