This involves my elderly mother (Mrs C. V. Kelly) whose Goodmans
television, bought from Comet, "burnt out" in about
15 months from purchase. She sent it to her local branch of Comet
for repair, and they returned what she thought was the wrong model,
and which didn't get a good picture anyway.
This local branch (Plymouth), with service centre at Exeter)
now refuse , it seems, to return her TV, for which she had agreed
to pay approx. £200 for its repair. The main protagonist
in the repair saga seems to be a Mr. Lewis at the Exeter service
centre. My Mother has also written to Comet PLc had office to
complain, without reply.
The details aside, we now have a frail octagenarian having somewhat
rude people at the service centre now insulting her on the phone
and hanging up on her during conversations about this TV. She
knows what the model is: I bought it for her as a gift (last time
with the Comet/Goodmans combination) AND she has the manual with
a picture of it. Needless to say, at her age, registered partially
disabled, and not long ago widowed, the TV is her lifeline to
the outside world. She has spent some of her limited savings on
a portable (to get her thru' Wimbledon and the World Cup)!
Notwithstanding the fact that this requires resolution and the
retrun of the TV that she gave in good faith to be repaired, I'm
just disgusted by the treatment she has received.
