14th November 1996- Purchased from Comet,l a MITAC P150+ computer for
£1299.99. Also purchased 5 star, 5year Cash back warranty
for £349.99. I returned the Registration slip from the certificate
of insurance shortly after.
27th December 1996- MITAC P150+ returned to store defective.As
same model was not available instore, I purchased an AST Advantage
7303 computer instead for £1549.99 and at the same time
took out another 5 year Cashback Warranty for £399.99. I
was informed by a member of staff that a new certificate of insurance
would be issued.
8th January 1997- Received Certificate of insurance for AST computer,
Returned registration slip.
July 2000- Upon checking my files I discovered that the Validation
certificate in my possession applied not to the AST computer but
to the original MITAC Computer.
I immediately contacted COMET on the number detailed on the Certificate
of insurance and was told by Comet employee that this was not
a problem as he was looking at the relevant details on his computer
screen, I was advised to return the Validation certificate for
the original computer and he would send me new documents for the
AST computer.
4th August 2000- I received a replacement Certificate of Insurance
and sent off the registration slip.
December 2001- Contacted 5 Star office as I had not received
a validation certificate.I Was told by 5 Star office that I was
not registered.
17th December 2001- Contacted Mr AS at Landmark Insurance Co Ltd
who arranged for a letter to be sent that would act as a substitute
for the missing validation Certificate, During the conversation
Mr Styles stated that this was not an uncommon problem and that
he was aware that the registration details of approx 600 customers
had not been entered onto the data system by Comet employees and
that a resolution to my problem may take some time.N.B. no claim
was made on the warranty during the 5 year period.
21st February 2002 Received letter from Landmark insurance stating
after a review they felt I had not complied with the registration
procedures and was therefore not eligible for a refund, However
purely as a goodwill gesture, they would release £200.I
have registered a complaint with regard to Landmark insurance
Co Ltd with the Financial Ombudsman service and have written Comet
Customer Care office requesting payment of the outstanding £199.99p.
Comet themselves, despite numerous telephone calls did not offer
any advice or support or more importantly accept the fact THAT
THEY FAILED TO INPUT MY DETAILS ONTO THEIR CASHBACK DATABASE
