I am writing to let you know that I recently sent my photos to
be developed to Brooks Launderette. They in turn put the film
in a registered and sealed bag. Once every few days Kodak processing
company van comes to pick up the films to take to the lab and
develope. They appear to have the photos for the films registered
before and after mine but seem to have lost my photos.
They sent me a free film and a printing voucher but felt that
these photos of my first holiday with my girlfriend in France
were irreplaceable and the peace offering of a free film was a
little patronizing so I turned to them as they appeared to be
the responsible party.
The situation is that if insured they are liable up to £250
but as the photos were not insured I am not liable to any compensation.
I said I didn't know I had to insure them and that this kind of
small print was never brought to my attention. They said that
there should have been a sign saying so in the shop but when I
went in there was no such thing, even today there is no such thing.
I have in fact spoken to the customer service assistant of Brooks,
Ms AF . She was the one who originally told me to chase this issue
up, of course, was before she realized that it was in fact Brooks
who would be liable and not Kodak. Since, she has contacted me
and has tried to temp me with free dry cleaning vouchers. These
photos are priceless and if Brooks can not be bothered to put
up a sign saying that insurance should be taken out (just in case)
then they should be responsible to pay the full compensation.
