Very Briefly GLK have entered into a 'Design and Supply Only'
contract in the sum of £6,863.00 after application of 40%
discount.
The goods supplied are:
a) not of the same quality as on show at their showroom,
b) damaged at the works or in transit,
c) incorrectly assembled,
d) wrongly specified/supplied,
e) shoddily made.
We have been trying to get GLK to visit to view these issues since
November 2001. They just will not attend.
I have engaged the assistance of the finance company and Trading
Standards, both of who have insisted GLK respond, but they don't.
The finance company have sent their own surveyor to view and his
report is in full agreement with my schedule of complaint. Still
GLK have failed to respond.
DZ, one of the proprietors, has phoned me twice, been extremely
rude and abusive, telling me to "get these people (finance
company) off my back" and "I know the law and you don't
stand a chance" and "Take me to court if you want. You'll
lose!"
A previous GL Kitchen complaint was satisfactorily resolved..eventually.

But on a second one, no response has
been received to date
We wait for GLK's response to this complaint.
=================================
Sorry to hear about the problems you are
having with your kitchen fit. Many of us have experienced
similar problems with other kitchen installation companys, Kitchens
Direct is one that springs to mind.
DZ's comments are no different to the attitude you'll encounter
from many of these company's. Unfortunately in a sense he is right,
when it comes to consumer rights in this country the law is an ass.
It pays the government to legislate in favour of companies rather
than consumers, after all who in the end do you think they collect
the most taxes from?
Sorry to sound cynical, but government departments like Trade and
Industry have reams of consumer legislation and very little in the
way of teeth to bring these companies to heal. Tthats because, believe
it or not, it costs them money too. All the best, you'll need it!

I sympathise with the people dissatisfied
with the kitchen companies and suppliers also spare a thought for
the kitchen fitters and who are often messed about as much as the
customers. Not only do they get grief from disgruntled
customers who have been waiting weeks for them to arrive and fit.
Very often they end up doing the job and then getting no money from
the company at the end of it.
Disputes between the customer and the supplier due to circumstances
out of the hands of the fitters often result in the fitter recieving
nothing or very little for the hours of work put in. My husband
fitted many kitchens last year and the last four prior to Xmas he
was not paid for. 1 comany 'SIS' used by Tiles-r-Us went bankrupt
result no money. 2nd company 'K.I.R' again used by 'Tiles-r-Us'
won't respond to invoices, 3rd company BKS Kitchens Swansea (known
previously as British Kitchen Systems)offering to pay half the amount
owed even though the customer is totally satisfied with the work
performed by my husband.
Lastly 'Rooms For Living' Cowbridge S.Wales refusing to pay any
money stating poor workmanship as the excuse although after going
to the customer and asking for a written list of anything they were
not happy about regarding workmanship we have yet recieved nothing.
Ironic too that in view of poor workmanship why wait until the kitchen
is 99% installed before this is mentioned. Plus no option of going
and rectifying any of these alledged faults.
As you can imagine no payment for the last 6 weeks work before Xmas
is no fun with 4 kids to provide for 1, with special needs. I do
really sympathise with these customers ripped off by kitchen companies
having seen how these so called businesses operate but the sub-contract
fitters are getting ripped off as well. The only ones gaining from
this business are those sitting behind the desks in the company
offices, who lie through their teeth to the customer and blame the
fitters and equally lie through their teeth to the fitter and blame
the customer for with-holding payment. A.K ... 11 January 2004
